Boygenius Sells Out Madison Square Garden

I was able to attend a Boygenius concert on October 2, 2023 at Madison Square Garden. Boygenius is currently on their Boygenius Plot Fall 2023 Tour with different openers, but for the Madison Square Garden show MUNA opened. They went on tour since they just released a new album titled “The Record ” released on March 31, 2023. The doors for the concert opened at 7 PM, and MUNA went on stage at 8 PM. MUNA performed different songs from their album, and ended with “Silk Chiffon, ” one of their most popular songs.

MUNA played for an hour, and 15 minutes later “The Boys are Back in Town” by Thin Lizzy started to play (indicating Boygenius is about to come on). The Boygenius setlist was an hour and twenty one minutes long. On the setlist, they had songs from their Boygenius EP like “Salt in the Wound,” “Me and my Dog’,’ and “Bite the Hand.” They also sang all of the songs from “The Record.” Since Boygenius went their separate ways for a bit and created solo music, each member sang one song from their solo work. Julien Baker sang “Favor,” Phoebe Bridgers sang “Graceland Too,” and Lucy Dacus sang “Please Stay.” Boygenius was able to sell out Madison Square Garden, which holds 19,500 people.

I did not think Boygenius would be able to sell out Madison Square Garden, considering they don’t even have 1,000,000 followers on instagram. I was a bit concerned about my seats, because on Ticketmaster it said in the description my seats were a side view. However, the concert was still incredible and exceeded my expectations, making me realize there are no bad seats at a Boygenius concert. The atmosphere at the concert was amazing since Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus are all incredible performers and have great stage presence. The fans of Boygenius were all really nice, only adding to such a great atmosphere.

Since I was in section 222, It was a bit higher up in Madison Square Garden. But, there was a large screen available, so everyone was able to see Boygenius no matter where your seats were located. Halfway throughout the concert, they left the stage and migrated to a separate stage on the other side of the floor. On this separate stage, they sang multiple songs that are unreleased and others that are on their newest EP called “The Rest ” which came out on Friday, October 13, 2023. I attended the concert with one of my friends, and she said “It was an awesome experience, and I would definitely want to attend another Boygenius show. The fans there were so nice, and Boygenius is so talented.”

Overall, I loved the Boygenius concert. The setlist, the atmosphere, and their stage presence made this concert really enjoyable. On a ten point scale, I would rate the Boygenius Concert a 9.7 out of 10.
