Reverse poetry is a poem that can be read forwards (top to bottom) and have one meaning, but can also be read backwards (bottom to top) and have a different or opposite meaning.
Poem 1 by Abby Rapuano
I need to
hold onto you.
But my intentions are to
make promises I can’t keep.
I know it’s wrong to say that
“I’m not going to hurt you.”
Because I am.
I’m not who you want me to be.
I’m worthless and
I know I’m wrong to assume that
you love me.
You love me.
I know I’m wrong to assume that
I’m worthless and
I’m not who you want me to be.
Because I am.
I’m not going to hurt you.
I know it’s wrong to say that–
Make promises I can’t keep.
Poem 2 by Christa Borino
He Does Not Love
Our hearts filled with ice
No cupid bows striking
Each day felt longer as our hearts sank deeper until no more sparks flew
Love letters are thrown away
And
Anniversary Gifts smashed
Destroyed hearts
He does not love me
Little girls play the game
He loves me he loves me not
Rose petals hit the floor
He loves me
Hearts filled with joy
Our eyes sparkle as we smile
Fireworks explode as we look at each other
Days feel like minutes as our hearts burst with color and light
He loves me
He loves me
Days feel like minutes as our hearts burst with color and light
Fireworks explode as we look at each other
Our eyes sparkle as we smile
Hearts filled with joy
Rose petals hit the floor
He loves me
Rose petals hit the floor
He loves me he loves me not
Little girls play the game
He does not love me
Destroyed hearts
Anniversary Gifts smashed
And
Love letters are thrown away
Each day felt longer as our hearts sank deeper until no more sparks flew
No cupid bows striking
Our hearts filled with ice
He Does Not Love
