Magnolia Journal Review

Magnolia Journal is a magazine made by HGTV´s “Fixer Upper” stars, Chip and Joanna Gaines. Chip and Joanna Gaines are a demo and design couple from Waco, Texas. In this magazine they help couples and families find a house, and help them turn it into a welcoming home. Though the houses are often “fixer-uppers,” they turn them into their clients’ dream home, with lots of renovating and design. Not only do they have their own hit show, they have their own bakery, “The Silos,” and their own businesses, such as Magnolia Realty and Magnolia Homes. The recently renowned duo created this magazine as a creative outlet, and to give viewers a glimpse of their life. I have bought several of their magazines, and personally I find them to be a real treat. The contents include seasonal home decorating and gardening tips, recipes, a personal story from both Chip and Joanna, and much more. The magazines are beyond aesthetically pleasing, and are such a joy to read and peruse through. I specifically enjoy “Jo’s Seasonal Favorites” and “Chip’s Seasonal Favorites.” In these pages, Chip and Joanna share some of their favorite objects and things of the season, giving a description about each one. There are many tasty recipes included in each magazine, and other special features. Each magazine issue has a certain topic that is the central focus of the magazine, which has to do with the season that the issue is about. These ¨topics,¨ so to speak, are themes. For instance, in the 2017 fall issue of ¨Magnolia Magazine,¨ the theme is ¨Thanksgiving,¨ and in this year’s winter season issue, the theme is ¨Wonder.¨

As well as the themes in the magazine, there are ¨interviews.¨ These interviews include feedback from fans of the magazine, who have responded to a question regarding a certain topic, are certain people or companies that have affected their lives, or are just people that Chip and Joanna find inspiring. Some of these people are regular people from the Gaines´ home town, while some might be famous for their company, or a book. Though these elements mostly stay consistent in each issue of the magazine, they might vary slightly. What ultimately stays consistent is the Farmhouse style decor elements. Joanna describes her style as ¨simple, fresh, and timeless.¨ I highly recommend this magazine to anyone who enjoys interior design/decorating, and to anyone who is interested in learning about Chip and Joanna Gaines.
