Only the Beginning

By Jacob Rogovin

It’s early in the season but right now the girls Caldwell Chiefs Lacrosse Team is sitting at a respectable 3-2 record. They opened up the season with a win against Waldwick 14-6. They then suffered two tough losses one against Northern Highlands 16-2 and the other to rival West Essex 15-5. The Chiefs bounced back winning their next two games against Jefferson and a close win against Mount Saint Dominic. When asked senior Kelly Pierce what she thought of the start of the season she responded, “I think so far we’ve been doing well, our only two losses were to two of the top ranked teams.”

Junior Brittany Costigan and Junior Sam Gargiulo lead the team in goals, Brittany with 13 and Sam with 11. Junior Allie Behre leads the team in assists with 10. Sam is the overall point leader on the team with 20. The chiefs are a pretty experienced team with most of their key pieces being juniors and seniors. This could be crucial and a real asset as it gets to the later part of the season and a state run. Kelly said that the goals for the season are: “One goal is to keep our team chemistry which is also one of our keys to success. Another goal is to learn from the top teams we play to better our performances in upcoming games.” I wish the Chiefs the best of luck as the season progresses.
