Spring fever. Everyone gets it. While the weather starts to get warmer and the flowers start to bloom, you probably find yourself losing all motivation to complete school work and even stay focused. Instead of slowing down the fourth marking period, here are some tips on how to end the school year strong even when you think you have no motivation in you to keep going.
Tip 1: Stay focused in class to avoid doing work at home
It is easy to get distracted in school even when you’re given time to do your classwork or homework in class. Instead of taking this time to rot and do nothing, actually use it for the reason it is given. Keeping the end goal in mind to have no homework when returning home from school will give you the motivation to get it done in school.
You’re in school for a certain amount of time anyway—don’t waste it. Utilize it. Later you will be thanking yourself for getting your work done and giving yourself the time to do whatever you want to after school.
Tip 2: Keep a Schedule

I personally find myself having trouble staying motivated when I don’t have a set to-do list of what I need to get done. I end up scrolling through my phone for too long, taking too much time deciding what to do, and just being less productive.
The key is to keep the to-do list realistic. Don’t commit yourself to too much or else you won’t get anything done and will feel overwhelmed. I spoke to Keya Goplani, a senior here at JCHS, she stated, “I have a to-do list for myself that goes by week as opposed to day so that I know what I need to get done by the end of the week and am more productive for that week.” By keeping a short list you will have the motivation to get tasks done in a timely manner and still have time for any other activities you want to do because afterall it is the end of the school year.
Tip 3: Enjoy the Fresh Air
With little to no motivation to do school work, sometimes it’s best to take breaks. The best way to do this is to enjoy the fresh air. Fresh air is regenerating and refreshing. Taking walks outside is one of the best things for your mental health. Even something as simple as opening a window while doing your work is enough to feel the benefits of the fresh air. You can also just sit and do your work outside. New scenery is also very motivating. The same repetitive routine every single day can become boring which is also why during the spring we get antsy and lose motivation to do work.
Tip 4: Clean Your Workplace
Spring fever also calls for spring cleaning! This is the time of year to refresh your new years goals! The best way to do this is to have a clear space. Take the time every week to clean the area that you usually do your work. If you do your work in your room, reorganize your desk, set time apart every week to dust and vacuum. These simple steps will ensure you stay motivated for the rest of the school year.
Nothing feels better than a fresh space. It makes you more excited to do your work and also makes you begin to feel even more motivated. This motivation that you start by cleaning will give you what you need to get your work done. Put on some music, open your windows, and get cleaning!
Tip 5: Nourish Your Body
It’s easy in the winter to stick to more comfort foods and not really get much motivation for movement. Spring is time for a refresh. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy foods are becoming more appealing. Feeding your brain with these foods will help give you the stable energy you need to get your work done.
This is the time to experiment with different ingredients and plan some nice meals and snacks for yourself so you have the energy to get your work done. What you put in your body makes a big impact on your overall health. And don’t forget to treat yourself, late night ice cream runs are also great motivation to stay focused and get work done.

While these tips may seem very vague and simple, taking these small steps can make a big impact on your overall mindset and drive you to finish out the school year. Remember: you worked so hard all year, and you can still have fun while finishing out strong! Happy Spring!
