The start of the 2025 Boys Lacrosse season marked the end of an era, as well as the beginning of a new one. With Coach Timan retiring, the team has a different head coach for the first time in program history. Coach Timan was a very successful head coach in his 20 year tenure of the squad, but he felt as though it was time to step down.
Coach Nick Esposito got the call when Timan retired. As a familiar face of the lacrosse community, it was a no-brainer who the number one option would be. Esposito graduated from James Caldwell High School in 2005. He then went on to play collegiate lacrosse at Kean University, where he logged 6 points in 39 games played. Coach Esposito was a Physical Education Teacher in Fairfield for the majority of his career, until he switched districts into the Caldwell-West Caldwell School district three years ago, where he is now a Physical Education Teacher at Grover Cleveland Middle School.
Esposito is no new-comer to the team. He has been the Offensive Coordinator for the team for over a decade, proving he can lead a successful squad. Having grown up in the town, he knows the ins and outs of Caldwell Lacrosse. Along with him, coach Kyle Huff stepped into a bigger role, fully taking over the varsity defense, which was previously shared between himself and Timan. Both Huff and Esposito are long-term coaches with plenty of lacrosse experience and Caldwell experience.
In his first year, Esposito was faced with the challenge of being moved up to the Fitch-Pitt division. So far in his inaugural year, coach Esposito has led the team to a 3-4 record. The team has faced some of the toughest opponents in the state, having played No.1 Delbarton, No.3 Summit, and No. 18 Bernards. He has led the team to some gritty victories, including a double-overtime win against Bernards. In the Fitch-Pitt, the boys are 1-2 and looking for another divisional win against Seton Hall Prep. As one of the teams to just be moved up into the division, Esposito and the team knew they had a lot to prove throughout the season, which they have done masterfully thus far.
At a time when everyone was wondering what direction Caldwell lacrosse would take under its new coach, Esposito quickly proved he was ready to carry the torch and keep the program’s momentum going.
