The Caldwell Girls Varsity Lacrosse team continues to push through a challenging season with a mix of determination, leadership, and team spirit. With a current record of 2-5, the team recently snapped a four-game losing streak with an exciting 8-7 win over Vernon — a victory that sparked new momentum as they head into the heart of their schedule.
Led by head coach Angela Giampino-Vasi, the team is captained by Junior Abby Anemone, and Seniors Tatumn Lattimer, Riley Mazepa, and Isabella Medina. Each captain brings a unique energy to the team, both on and off the field. Their leadership has been key in keeping morale high and the team focused through tough games and close matchups.

Junior Abby Anemone has been a standout all season, leading the team in scoring with 20 goals and 10 assists. Her ability to find the back of the net and create opportunities for her teammates has made her one of the most valuable players on the field.
The roster is a strong blend of underclassmen and upperclassmen, each bringing their own strengths to the field. Freshmen Adriana Brown and Milea Merritt have started their high school careers with promise, gaining valuable varsity experience early on. The sophomore class — including Marygrace Kennedy, Kaitlyn Mullin, Alexis Capaccio, Marlena McSharry, and Eliza Lima — is packed with potential and growing stronger with every game. Juniors Morgan Manriquez, Isabel Berkowitz, Crawford Checchetto, Ava Tsettos, Isabella Margraff, and Chelsea Rudden provide the core of the team’s athleticism and depth.

The senior players, including captains Lattimer, Mazepa, and Medina, are setting the tone for the rest of the team. Whether it’s through hustle plays, defensive stops, or encouraging words during practice, they’re making their final season count.
Looking ahead, the team is focused on building off their recent win. They’ll host Mahwah on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. at JCHS, followed by an away game at Cranford on Wednesday, April 24, also at 4:30 p.m. Both games are important opportunities for the team to continue developing their chemistry and earn more wins.
Junior Ava Tsettos spoke to the mindset that’s guiding the team right now: “Our mindset is to be more confident. As the season is progressing, we’ve realized that when we play with confidence, we work better together as a team. It’s less about being perfect and more about trusting ourselves and each other.” That growing confidence is visible in their communication on the field, their resilience in tough games, and their ability to bounce back from setbacks.

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team continues to show heart, hustle, and growth with each game. While the season hasn’t been without its challenges, their commitment to one another and to improving as a unit is what makes this team so exciting to watch. With strong leadership, a positive mindset, and a deep pool of talent, they’re aiming to finish the season stronger than they started — and they’re just getting started.
