Vacation Review: Duck Key

Hawk’s Cay Resort is located in Duck Key, Florida and is an incredible vacation destination for families and friends. With many activities including swimming with dolphins, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, pickleball, tennis, and the Coral Cay (an area with basketball courts, soccer fields, volleyball courts, waterpark, etc.) you will never be bored during your stay at Hawks Cay! There are many places to lay in the sun and cool off including the lagoon, and the pool, and for adults that want to have some time away from the kids, there is even a private 21+ area. To stay on Duck Key, you must book a room with Hawk’s Cay Resort. Unlike other resorts, they have many options for rooms including hotel rooms, hotel suites, villas, and penthouses.

We visited Hawk’s Cay from January 1- January 6 2024 (five days and six nights). When we arrived, check-in was super easy and done very efficiently. The front desk clerk gave us a map of the resort and circled where our villa was located to make the search easier. We also received a long list of activities that were available at Coral Cay that week.  During our stay, we took advantage of many of the activities listed above. For example, we laid by the lagoon and pool, and when it got too hot, we would swim to cool off. We also went paddle boarding in the lagoon and rented golf carts that allowed us to drive all around the resort. Our favorite spot to be was the tiki bar. Located right between the Dolphin Show, Lagoon, and Pool. The server, Joseph, makes incredible virgin strawberry daiquiris and shirley temples. Along with the many choices of drinks they had, a large food menu was provided, including a kids menu, sides, drinks, and all different types of food.

Once the day is over, and you head back to your villa, you can watch the sunset over the bay while getting ready to go to dinner. The most popular dinner places in Duck Key are Sixty-One Prime and Angler and Ale. Sixty-One Prime is located directly inside the hotel with fine dining steak and seafood. If booked, you can head over to Angler and Ale which is located right outside of the Hawk’s Cay Resort Entrance. Angler and Ale is on the dock, which allows the customers to have a great view and a great meal. Some of the most popular meals include lobster, the catch of the day (changes daily), and steak. After dinner, you can head back to the resort, and parents can enjoy themselves by the tiki bar. But don’t worry, because your kids are right next to you by a fire pit doing whatever activities are available that night. Some activities are karaoke night, freeze dance, hula-hoop competition, and “guess the song.”

After coming to Hawk’s Cay for three years in a row, the staff could not help themselves and decided to give us a letter and gifts for our stay. The basket included a hat, alcoholic beverages for my parents (neither of us indulged in these drinks), a Hawk’s Cay Koozie, and a flask for my parents. Going to Hawk’s Cay is something that we look forward to every year, and helps my family start the new year off in style. Between the employees, the service, and the abundance of activities, the trip always brings everyone together. If your family is ever trying to find a new, tropical vacation, look no further than Hawk’s Cay Resort, Duck Key, Florida, where you will form irreplaceable memories with loved ones.
