Tommy “Cutlets” Devito Takes NY Giants Fans by Storm

The New York Giants’ third-string quarterback, Tommy Devito has taken fans by storm. The Giants started their season with a very rocky record of 2-7 but have switched that up to a 4-8 record. Daniel Jones who is the New York Giants starting quarterback suffered a torn ACL a month ago at the Las Vegas game which cost them a terrible loss with the score of 30-6. Their backup quarterback, Tyrod Taylor was sacked during the Jets game and was diagnosed with a severe rib injury. This is when Tommy Devito blew fans away.

Tommy Devito, who is originally from nearby Cedar Grove, NJ and attended Don Bosco Prep, was signed by the New York Giants last spring as a free agent. He attended Syracuse University and then transferred to the University of Illinois before entering the NFL. At the time of writing, Tommy Devito has a two-game winning streak with the Giants after defeating the Washington Commanders and the New England Patriots. With the return of Tyrod Taylor this week fans were nervous Brian Daboll (Head Coach of the New York Giants) would not start Devito. Luckily, Tommy Devito is set to start on Monday’s home game against the Green Bay Packers. Brian Daboll recently spoke out at a press conference earlier this week about his decision, “Tommy’s done a good job, he’s improved each of the games he’s played, Though he’s played well the last two games, made good decisions, was accurate with the football, earned the right to play” (Newstimes). Tyrod Taylor was not cleared to play until Tuesday while Daboll was confident with his choice of starting Devito before Taylor was even cleared.

Now, we all want to know why has Tommy Devito gotten so much love and respect from Giants fans. Three things: he is young, from New Jersey, and he is Italian. I would say that the majority of Italian-American Football fans are Giants fans. With Devito being born and raised right outside of Metlife Stadium in Cedar Grove, fans love him even more. Tommy still lives in his childhood home and is taken care of by his mother, “I don’t have to worry about laundry, what I’m eating for dinner, chicken cutlets and all that is waiting for me when I get there. My mom still makes my bed, Everything is handled for me” (People Magazine). Every single one of his teammates applauds him for living at home because it is financially smart. An offensive lineman told ESPN, “That is the greatest. You know what, smart!” “Saving his money. Genius! That’s the one thing I’d say from a financial standpoint” (People Magazine)

Tommy Devito has put himself on the map for not only his football skills but the way he can make his fans fall in love with him. Head Coach Brian Daboll stated in many social media posts that he thinks Devito has proven himself by winning the past two weeks, “I think Tommy’s done a good job. He’s improved in each of the games he’s played,” Daboll said. “I thought he played well the last two games, made good decisions, was accurate with the football, and earned the right to play” (New York Post). He says he has every reason to believe that Devito will do good for the Giants on Monday night against the Packers because Devito has shown that he will not give up. I think that it might be hard for the Giants to beat the Packers after Green Bay just beat the reigning Super Bowl champs, Kansas City, but with Devito playing this good as a third-string quarterback, we will have to wait and see.
