Jim Gaffigan: comedian, actor, and author

You may know Jim Gaffigan as the actor who played Roy Keene on “ That ‘70s Show” or you may have heard some of his sidesplitting stand-up shows. Regardless of where you’ve seen him, there’s no denying that Jim Gaffigan has got talent. From movies, to stand-up, to his new book entitled “Dad is Fat” there is no telling what Gaffigan will do next.

Gaffigan is mostly known for his work as a comedian. His unique style is noted for its lack of swearing and raunchiness that often play key roles in most comedians’ acts. Throughout his routine he often includes many high-pitched asides imitating an overly sensitive audience member that makes Gaffigan’s performance stand out above the rest. Most of his skits focus on food and the woes of everyday people which make him all the more relatable. His most famous skit talks about the quality of a Hot Pocket and has been well-received by all of his audiences. Gaffigan is currently on his “Mr. Universe” tour and is, in fact, coming to the Wellmont in Montclair, NJ this March – a can’t miss opportunity for any fan of his stand-up routines.

Besides standup, Gaffigan has written “Dad is Fat” a memoir about life with his five children due to come out on May 7. The comedian has said that he is “not sure if it’s a memoir, a confession, an apology or a cry for help but [my wife] Jeannie and friends have told me it’s really funny.” Judging by his stand-up routines, his book is anticipated to be a big hit.

Gaffigan’s wide range of talent is clearly visible on the stage and off: he has made appearances on various television shows and movies, such as “13 Going On 30” and “Friends.” The next time you watch a movie, keep an eye out for him: he has appeared in a surprising number of movies for someone who is a stand-up comedian.

Jim Gaffigan sets the bar high for all other comedians with his clean comedy routines and growing repertoire of movie and television appearances. He cannot be compared to someone like Daniel Tosh, who, although funny and successful in the comic world, relies too heavily on explicit material that is sometimes overdone and uncomfortable for the listener. Gaffigan’s cleaner approach is what brings so much attention to his humor and sets a glowing example for all who will follow in his footsteps.
