An Emmy is an award given to the best TV shows, actors, and other people who work on television. Think of it as the Oscars for television, just like the Grammy’s are for music.
How do they work? Professionals who work in television vote for the best shows, actors, directors, writers, and technical experts. There are different Emmy ceremonies for different kinds of TV shows, such as prime-time (evening), daytime, news, and sports. Winners receive a famous winged-woman trophy, which represents the art and science of television.
Here are some featured looks:
Selena Gomez

Emmy Nominations:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Only Murders in the Building (2024)
- Outstanding Comedy Series for Only Murders in the Building (2024–2025)
Fashion Review:
Selena Gomez’s crimson Louis Vuitton gown immediately caught everyone’s attention. Fashion experts praised the bright color and the elegant, structured shape that fit her frame beautifully. Christian Allaire of Vogue said the halter neckline and long train added a perfect mix of glamour and sophistication. The simple styling, with minimal jewelry and soft makeup, let the dress shine on its own and showed Selena’s polished red carpet style.
My Commentary:
I like the gown’s structure and the rich red color. I just wish it had been a slightly darker red and had a more defined waist to show off her figure.
Colman Domingo

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for The Four Seasons (2025)
Fashion Review:
Colman Domingo’s powder-blue Valentino suit with crystal embroidery was praised as stylish and bold. Vogue called him “ever the red carpet star,” noting how the soft color and detailed embroidery stood out. The suit fit him perfectly, giving a modern twist to classic men’s formalwear. Some stylists suggested that using fewer crystals might have made the look cleaner, but overall, Domingo showed confidence and a strong sense of style.
My Commentary:
The suit looks great, but I think less silver decoration would have made it even more elegant.
Quinta Brunson

Emmy Win:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary (2024)
Fashion Review:
Quinta Brunson’s black gown with small cutouts got a lot of praise for looking both bold and classy. Experts said it balanced a daring look with elegance, showing off her figure without being too revealing. Vogue pointed out that the simple black fabric with cutouts made the dress stylish and modern. The small jewelry she chose matched the dress well, keeping the outfit balanced and polished.
My Commentary:
The dress suits her really well. I think adding some silver jewelry would have made it even better and more eye-catching.
Jenna Ortega

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Wednesday (2025)
Fashion Review:
Jenna Ortega’s Givenchy outfit was a bold and creative fashion choice. Experts loved the detailed, bejeweled top, which reportedly weighed 20–30 pounds, showing she is willing to take risks on the red carpet. Page Six said the outfit fit her Wednesday persona perfectly with its gothic, dramatic style. Even though the top was heavy, the dress made her stand out and showed she isn’t afraid to wear daring designs.
My Commentary:
The outfit looks amazing, but a lighter version might have been easier to wear. I also think her hair down behind her ears would have softened the look.
Sydney Sweeney

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Euphoria (2025)
Fashion Review:
Sydney Sweeney’s gown was praised for combining elegance and youthful charm. Fashion experts said the color and fabric worked perfectly with her skin tone and body. Vogue mentioned the classic shape and simple details made the dress modern and elegant at the same time. The jewelry and hairstyle were carefully chosen to complete the look, making it feel balanced and polished.
My Commentary:
The look is perfect. However, I think a low bun hairstyle could have made it even more classic and elegant.
Hunter Schafer

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Cuckoo (2025)
Fashion Review:
Hunter Schafer’s red gown made a bold statement on the red carpet. Fashion experts praised the bright color but mentioned the design was a bit simple compared to other standout looks. Vogue noted that adding some silver jewelry or details could have made the outfit feel more luxurious and complete. Even though it was not the most dramatic dress of the night, Schafer carried it with confidence and style.
My Commentary:
The gown is pretty, but a darker red and a few more design details or jewelry would have made it more eye-catching.
Brittany Snow

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Pitch Perfect: The Series (2025)
Fashion Review:
Brittany Snow’s pink corset gown was praised for its classic feminine look. Experts liked the color and fit, saying it looked flattering and elegant. Vogue mentioned that while the design was lovely, it was a little understated for the Emmys. Adding more volume or dramatic details could have made it more red-carpet ready.
Your Commentary:
The color is beautiful, but the gown could have been more dramatic with extra volume or fun details to make it stand out.
Kristen Bell

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Nobody Wants This (2025)
Fashion Review:
Kristen Bell’s backless gown was a bold choice that impressed fashion critics. Vogue highlighted how the open back added surprise and elegance, while the fitted design showed off her figure beautifully. Experts also noted the minimal styling worked well, keeping the dress as the focus without being overdone. It was considered one of her best red carpet looks.
My Commentary:
The gown is gorgeous. However, I think having a silver top section could have added an interesting contrast and made the look even more unique.
Sarah Paulson

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for American Horror Story: Hotel (2025)
Fashion Review:
Sarah Paulson’s feathered gown was eye-catching and dramatic. Fashion experts praised her for taking risks, saying the voluminous bottom made a big red carpet statement. Vogue suggested that a train-style silhouette could have added a more elegant flow, balancing the drama with refinement. The choice showed her confidence and playful approach to fashion.
My Commentary:
The dress is bold and fun, but a slightly less full bottom with a train would have made it even more graceful.
Michelle Williams

Emmy Nomination:
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Fosse/Verdon (2025)
Fashion Review:
Michelle Williams’ vintage Chanel gown was widely praised for its timeless, angelic look. Experts highlighted the flowing one-shoulder design and subtle white color, which gave her a soft and ethereal presence. Vogue complimented the understated jewelry, saying it complemented the dress perfectly without drawing attention away from the gown itself. The look was classic, elegant, and beautifully styled for the red carpet.
My Commentary:
The gown is absolutely beautiful. The choice of white is perfect, and the small jewelry makes it feel very angelic and elegant.
My Friends Commentary: After seeing the photos in my article, my friend and JCHS student Emma McGowan said “The Emmy’s fashion was way better than she expected,”She thought Selena Gomez and Michelle Williams looked elegant, but Jenna Ortega’s outfit was her favorite because it was unique and bold.”
Overall, the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were not just about celebrating great TV—they also showed off amazing red carpet fashion. Each celebrity had their own style, from classic and elegant to bold and fun. Selena Gomez and Michelle Williams looked timeless and graceful, while Jenna Ortega and Sarah Paulson chose more daring outfits that stood out. Overall, the fashion was exciting and full of personality. Whether the looks were simple or dramatic, they made the night more special and fun to watch.
