AI as we know it is part of our lives as students and as teenagers. AI has many different uses, although many have seen it to be a bad thing, especially for upcoming students. However, using AI is not a bad thing and can help if it is integrated in the right way. Some classes are already toying with AI but there are many possibilities to how we as students can use AI. Here are five of them:
1. Help brainstorm ideas:
Using AI should be more helpful than hurtful to students and their GPAs. Brainstorming ideas is one way for AI to be helpful. Sometimes people just have a day where they cannot think or be creative in their idea-making. AI can help turn the gears of these students especially in writing. Writing makes many frustrated, and coming up with entirely new ideas when there is only an hour during the period can be stressful. Using AI can allow students to change their view on certain subjects and see their writing in a new light and get out of writer’s block. AI can take a load off of the student and it will make sure that they do not have to stress over creative and new ideas. Large language models like Chat GPT can help answer questions that writers have about such brainstorming ideas.

2. Help students with questions when teachers cannot:
In many cases, students cannot reach their teachers to ask questions. This causes the divide of whether students should figure it out on their own or find another solution. AI offers that solution and it works well. According to an article from the University of Illinois, AI offers students instantaneous and detailed feedback on their work, helping them to see their strengths and weaknesses (University of Illinois). It is important to see that AI can help students know the work they are doing. Not knowing how to do the assignment is one of the main reasons that students need to ask a teacher questions in the first place, which is why AI is there to help. One of our JCHS students, Freshman Teddy Enright, related to this: “It helps me by acting as a teacher to help assist me at home and learn concepts that I might not have understood the way we were taught in class.”
3. Aid student research and correctly cite sources:
Research is one of the most important parts of writing in most history and English classes. Being able to not find sources is frustrating and something that all of us go through especially with a niche topic. AI is useful in being able to find these sources that many students are looking for and summarize them. Before AI, students had to look through many books to find information; nowadays, it is much easier and that can be used to most students’ advantages. Citations are also an important part in researching. I know from personal experience the points that you lose, if you do not put in the proper Works Cited. AI can help with citations in making them and helping finish the Works Cited. This is supported by an article from Panorama Education which states that AI chatbots can generate citation examples and automatically create accurate citations when provided with key details like author name, publication date, and other required information (Panorama Education). With AI, research can be made ten times easier, and it can be used to help make more detailed and intricate articles quicker.
4. AI helping to create customized workouts:
Working out is something that many teens love to do and sometimes they need a workout tailored to their liking. AI has the ability to make specialized workouts for teens, and it can allow for tailoring for different body types and workout niches. Making a specific workout plan for every week is different for everyone and the workout that works for the majority of people may not work for everyone. AI allows for people to focus on specific muscle groups and workouts like cardio and upper body strength.
5.Help students make study plans / aid with studying:
Making study plans is annoying, especially for those with time crunches. AI can help create specific study plans and make sure that every student hits their notes. According to Panorama Education, “AI-powered tools help students structure their class notes into easily digestible insights, making studying more efficient and effective” (Panorama Education). Using AI to make study plans can also help find new ideas and connect ideas between different parts of the material. Additionally, AI can aid with finding out how to study. For example, if one wants to study math, AI can tell that person whether they should do practice problems or real world applications.
Conclusion
Overall, AI can be used in many different ways that do not involve cheating in school. As the years go by, it is important to become in touch with technology and that starts with learning to use AI as soon as possible.
