TikTok is the world’s most vibrant social media platform where millions of laughs and tears happen. Tiktok is an extremely addictive platform filled with short form videos, engaging content, ads, product promotions, etc. However, Tiktok’s popularity is surrounded with tons of debates about the impact on the mostly young users’ lives. Here are some significant reasons as to why this ban would be so beneficial for teens’ lives.
1. Time Management and Productivity
One of the main primary concerns is that TikTok has an addictive nature. Teens on TikTok spend a majority of their day on the app scrolling through videos. A ban of the app would eliminate distractions and make teens want to focus more on other activities such as hobbies, spending time with friends and family, and sports. With the ban of TikTok, teens will have better focusing habits. Teens might find it a lot easier to concentrate on at hand tasks. This can benefit the child’s academic performance. Another reason is that banning TikTok will benefit the teens’ sleeping habits. The excessive use of these apps at night can disrupt sleeping patterns. Finally, with this ban, teens may be less likely to stay up on their phones on social media.
2. Improved Mental Health
While TikTok does serve as a platform for individuals to express themselves, their creativity, and ideas, it also has the potential to negatively affect their mental health. The most drastic issue that teens experience on TikTok is cyberbullying. This platform leaves teens very vulnerable to hateful comments, disrespectful behavior, and other rude remarks. Teens also find themselves comparing their looks to other people, which destroys their self esteem. With TikTok banned, the amount of pressure and stress that teens have to experience is drastically reduced.
3. Enhanced Privacy and Data Security
Did you know that TikTok gathers a vast array of user data, including personal information, location data, browsing history, and even keystroke patterns? Most users are unaware of just how much data and information TikTok really takes in. This extensive data collection raises questions about the platform’s intentions and the potential misuse of user information. Kids at a younger age are far more vulnerable when it comes to sharing information and due to the fact that they aren’t as knowledgeable about modern technology. Furthermore, this can create opportunities for exploitation, targeted advertising, data profiling, and even manipulation of user behavior. Overall, banning TikTok can serve as a proactive measure to address these concerns and reduce the risks associated with privacy violations and data security.
4. Encouragement of Real Life Interactions/Promotion of Alternative Hobbies
With the banning of tiktok, teens’ lifestyles are going to have to change for the better. Without TikTok being one of the main social media platforms, teens are going to have no other choice but to explore different things and find a new hobby. With this ban, teens would be encouraged to be involved in real life interactions that are face-to-face and not through a screen. This could help teens find deeper connections, improve social skills and creativity, and have a broader range of experiences without their phone present.
Overall, the banning of TikTok would be extremely beneficial to most teenagers, but we need to come to the realization that teens use the platform differently. Even though there are many reasons as to why the banning of TikTok is beneficial, we need to recognize that even though it may be banned eventually, another app will take its place in the future.
