The JCHS tennis community was absolutely thrilled when the school decided to renovate its four tennis courts in the spring of last year. But upon digging up the first layer of courts, construction made a startling discovery—there were not just one, but two layers of pre-existing tennis courts directly underneath the courts.
According to Mr. Russionello, coach of the JV girls and boys tennis teams, while removing the first, damaged layer of courts, construction unexpectedly discovered the two layers of tennis courts. To fully unearth the extra two layers would require even deeper digging. Currently, the renewal of the tennis courts remains on hold as the administration seeks a solution to this surprising predicament.
In the meantime, the girls’ tennis season, which ended October 10, held their practices and matches at the Memorial Park tennis courts, normally the facilities used by the JV team only. Hopefully, construction will finish in time for the boys’ season in the spring!
