It’s an exciting time to be a Caldwell Chief wrestler. Practices are under way and the first match is just around the corner. The team this year is coming off a season of tremendous success, and they are looking forward to the future.

Last season was successful for the Chiefs. The team made it to the semifinals of Sectionals, took second in the ECT, first in the Bloomfield Tournament, and first in Districts. It was the first team District title since 2002. As well, arch rivals West Essex was taken down handily, and three wrestlers made it all the way to Atlantic City for states.

That is a lot to live up to, but this year’s team wants nothing less. The Chiefs have put many goals in mind for the season.  Those goals include repeating first place finishes at the Bloomfield Tournament and Districts. As well, the team is working hard towards a Sectional title. Of course, the team wants to have as many participants in Atlantic City as possible.

In order to achieve such success, it is very important that the team works together. One leader, and accomplished standout Junior Dean Caravela, knows it’s important for younger wrestlers to “realize that they are important to our program, and belong with us. Our team is made up of a brotherhood, and we want everyone to have a good experience in the sport.”

The toughest match for Caldwell will certainly be South Plainfield, a program that has seen a lot of success throughout its history. No one knows what this season will hold for the Chiefs, but one thing is for sure: This team will go out there every practice and work hard, not for themselves, but for their teammates and coaches.
