After the volleyball season being pushed back, the team was on edge. Finally being able to start on March 1, the team got right to work. With only one scrimmage during the pre-season against Bogota, they had to prepare very quickly. The team started off hot beating town rivals West Essex and Verona. They took a hard loss against Livingston after that, but quickly bounced back with four straight wins against Bloomfield, Newark Academy, West Orange, and Mount Saint Dominic. They also had a successful senior night against West Essex to honor the seniors. The team finished the regular season with a winning record of 8-4.
They advanced to states and had a bye in the first round, then beat Parsippany in the second round. In the third round, they battled with Fort Lee but lost the match. It was a very hard loss for them. The team played one final game against West Orange for their team’s senior night on Tuesday, April 20, but took a hard loss. Even though they had some tough losses in the end, they finished the season with a great record of 9-6 while placing third in the American League. This was a great accomplishment given the circumstances of losing five great seniors last year and playing during these trying times. Juniors Christine Infantalino and Ava Pannullo led the team with 48 and 49 kills for the season. Senior libero (back-row defensive specialist) Erica Maloney led the team with 106 digs. Lulu Ceccon led the team with 16 aces, and Christine Infantolino, Erin McCann, and Sarah Sherwood all had 14 aces. Seniors Casey Sheehan, Jojo Demiro, Isabel Ruggiero, Erin McCann, Jamie Pierce, and Erica Maloney have cherished every moment of this season. Having a semi-normal season was a big morale booster, especially for the senior athletes, and it will be a nice send-off as they embark on their next journey. They plan on having an end of the year banquet later in the year outside to celebrate the season.
