As the Lady Chiefs’ tennis team heads toward the pinnacle of the 2013 season, they cannot help but look back at some of the key moments during their season. The Chiefs have won 5 matches and lost 8 matches at this point in the season. The team has a solid group this year held together by senior captains Alyssa Melchione, Paige Mitsifer, and Kelly Mitsifer. Other seniors such as Sam DeBellonia, Natalie Grotyohann and Alyssa Bernstein have also propelled the Chiefs this season. This experienced senior class is accompanied by junior Emily Shapiro. Although Shapiro is only a junior, she has been an extremely valuable asset on the court.
When asked to describe the team, Paige said, “Our season is almost over and even though our record isn’t the best, we still play our hardest every time we step on the courts. When we play teams like Milburn and Livingston that’s all I can ask for as a captain. I am very proud of my team and I love them all to death. They make playing tennis so much more enjoyable.” The Chiefs lineup is very forceful with Melchione leading the Chiefs by playing first court singles. She is followed by Paige at second court singles and Kelly on the third court also playing singles. The two doubles teams consist of DeBellonia and Shapiro on one court, and Bernstein and Grotyohann on the other.
