The Lady Chiefs basketball team started the season off with the goal of beating West Essex in the holiday tournament. As a result of their efforts at practice, the team made it to the finals of the tournament where they took on the Knights. The Chiefs came out victorious and were awarded the title of The 2012 Holiday Tournament Champions. In the county tournament, the girls faced Mount St. Dominic, expecting to be blown out. The girls fought their hardest throughout the game and proved the predictions to be incorrect. The Chiefs only ended up losing by a couple of baskets and were proud of their performance on the court. The highest scorers of the season have been Ijeoma Ikpe and Meredith Weber, followed by Savanna Edighoffer. Gabby Roselle and Emily Banaszynski are key ball handlers and contributors to the team’s success. As the season comes to an end, the Chiefs will be heading into the state tournament. They are working hard to win in the early rounds, but know that the match up against Shabazz will be a difficult one to win. Ikpe comments that the girls continue to give their all at practice because, “as athletes, all we want is to get better no matter what time of the season it is.”
