Caldwell volleyball did an outstanding job this season. The 2015 team made a run in the state tournament, but unfortunately fell short, losing in the second round to Mahwah. Although it ended sooner than they had hoped, the Chiefs had a phenomenal season, finishing with a record of 16 wins and 10 losses. The team was led by senior captains Kelly Pierce, Abby Sloan, Christina Steifbold, and Gillian Dimasi.
There were many competitive and grueling matches this season, the two specific ones being against West Essex and Mount St. Dominic. The Chiefs defeated the Knights of West Essex at their home court on their senior night after three games. This match displayed charisma and strength in the team as they fought the whole time in a tough atmosphere, ultimately coming out with a win. The girls also beat cross town rival, Mount St. Dominic during the quad. It is always nice to beat a rival, and it boosted the team’s confidence for future matches.
A junior, Allie Behre, credited much of the team’s success this season to the team’s chemistry. She stated, “I think one of our biggest reasons for success was our team chemistry because everyone is really close and we all work together well. Also, everyone always stays positive and are always supporting each other.” Next season will be an adjustment for the Chiefs without this year’s seniors because they played a big role in the continuous success of the team, but all of the underclassmen work well together and the team feels strongly that they will continue to be triumphant in the future.
