As we are approaching the last marking period of the school year, students will be saying goodbye to their Dell Laptops as part of the district’s lease program. This transition will begin on June 9th when all grades will be returning their devices.
As we look into the next academic year, the plan is to bring in Chromebooks as the new one-to-one device for students. According to Mrs. Stafford, the switch to Chromebooks was highly considered as they are affordable, in regards to insurance and replacement costs, and they have a higher durability in comparison to what students currently have.
As a reflection towards the importance of one-on-one devices, Stafford emphasized how the pandemic showed that not many students have their own reliable access to technology for their schoolwork.
As students start to prepare to part with their Dells, Mrs. Stafford gave some advice and reminders:
- If there are any problems with it, get it fixed before you return it!
- Make sure to bring your chargers when you return the laptop itself!
- Back up any important files that are saved to your desktop and not your drive
- SENIORS: Save anything from your drive and other places, because your chrome account will be deactivated once you graduate.
Administration has also recognized that there may be some students who do not have access to personal devices over the summer. “We are going to send out a survey and see who needs a device and get one to the kids, or we are going to open the school so kids have access to a device”, Stafford stated.
With the transition to the new devices, students are highly encouraged to follow the guidelines of the return process and stay informed about the plans they have for next year.
