On Sunday February 2nd, the 67th annual Grammys took place in Los Angeles and was hosted by comedian, Trevor Noah. Many musicians were nominated for awards including Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Beyoncé and many more. Awards included Record of the year, in which Kendrick Lamar’s hit record, “Not Like Us” won, and the biggest award, Album of the Year, which went to Beyoncé‘s album, “Cowboy Carter.”
The Grammys have always been a long awaited award show that many people love to watch, especially those who love listening to music, and enjoy waiting to see who will take home the awards. During the Grammys, there are also performances by musicians who were nominated, and some who were not. Big performances that took place at the grammys this year included The Weeknd, which was a surprise to many people, Billie Eilish, who performed her big hit, “Birds of a Feather,” Chappell Roan, who performed her hit song, “Pink Pony Club,” and Benson Boone who performed “Beautiful Things” among others.
The category Album of the Year is always the most highly anticipated award. This year the nominees for that category were Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Charli xcx, André 3000, and Jacob Collier. Many people watching felt that the award was going to be given to either Taylor Swift, for her album, “The Tortured Poets Department” or Billie Eilish for her album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” In the end, the award did end up going to Beyoncé’s album, “Cowboy Carter.” This win caused a lot of people to go on to social media and talk about how this album should not have won. Most of the albums that were nominated were very good, and I feel as though any one of them that won deserved it.

Another main category at the grammys is Best Pop Vocal Album, which Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, and Billie Eilish were all nominated for. In the end, the award went to Sabrina Carpenter, for her album, “Short n’ Sweet.” I feel like Sabrina really deserves this win because her album was very good, and it definitely fits under this category. When I saw Sabrina on tour in September, I definitely had a good feeling that she was going to be nominated for this category, and nominated for others as well because of how good and detailed her album really was. Other than Sabrina, I did feel as though Ariana Grande’s album, “Eternal Sunshine” was very close and definitely could have won as well. When Ariana’s album came out in March of last year, it was all I listened to, and to this day, I still have it in rotation. I feel like Ariana deserved to win something for this album, but sadly she did not.

The last category that fans really looked forward to was the Best New Artist. The winner of this category ended up going to Chappell Roan, and I felt she really deserved this win. Chappell’s hit song, “Good Luck Babe,” which came out in 2024, became insanely popular and widely listened to. It really is a good song, and I enjoy listening to it as well. Other nominees for this category included Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Raye, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims and Khruangbin. This year, I really enjoyed watching the Grammys, because there were many songs that were nominated that I listen to very often and all of the winners deserved their win.
