The James Caldwell High School community has been informed about a heartfelt goodbye to come, as Mr. John Timan has decided to retire. Mr. Timan, one of our beloved Phys. Ed teachers and also Head Lacrosse Coach has officially resigned from his position. Throughout many years in these positions, Timan has developed an amazing relationship with each student, leaving a long-lasting impact. With this loss, many students and players are worried for what the future holds because of his absence. One of Timan’s dearest colleagues, Todd Romano, stated that, “Mr. Timan is going to be missed by the staff and students alike.” Todd Romano did an excellent job at fully capturing the difference Timan made on our staff and students. His commitment to bettering himself and emphasizing student growth went beyond sports, as he was always a person to go to for advice according to Romano.
Timan’s passion for coaching and teaching goes beyond what his many accomplishments. Timan not only led our lacrosse team to victory multiple times, but he also emphasized the importance of teamwork and resilience. Back in 2023, Timan led the lacrosse team to their 200th win which truly showed how well he maintained the team. One of our seniors who is personally close with Timan, Sean Murtagh stated that, “Coach Timan opened plenty of opportunities for me and overall motivated me daily.” As Sean stated, this rightfully describes who Timan was as a coach and teacher at James Caldwell High School. Timan will be remembered for his immense support and guidance that will last with each student and teammate for a lifetime.
For myself personally, I had multiple encounters with Mr. Timan while he was my gym teacher, and also Summer Barnett and I were JV Stat Girls for Lacrosse. One of our favorite memories with Mr. Timan was when we first learned how to use the stat book, and overall how to work around the game. This specific memory stuck with me because it truly highlighted who Mr. Timan was a person, teacher, and coach. During that moment, he showed patience and also the ability to lead and teach those who need help. Timan exemplified the importance of focusing on your goals and achievements, as many of his players received offers from collegiate sports. These offers showcased how excellent his teaching skills were, and also the support the teammates received.
As Timan leaves a significant impact, his legacy emphasizes the importance of self-discipline and determination. The lessons he illustrated on and off the field impacted students greatly. Timan will be greatly missed and remembered for his accomplishments, persistence, and pure drive. As the school year and lacrosse season continue, it does so with absolute appreciation and gratitude for everything that John Timan has contributed to.
