“1 year and 9 months, 10 eras, 15 dancers, 152 sold out stadiums, 51 cities, 5 continents, 517 hours performed, 10.1 million fans in attendance, and considered the highest grossing tour ever” (Time Magazine). Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour ended this past weekend in Vancouver, Canada where she played her last show of her historical and phenomenon tour. The Eras tour is considered the highest grossing tour of all time as it has earned more than $1 billion during the length of its time (Time Magazine). From this tour, Swift has become the only artist ever to become a billionaire just off of her singing and songwriting. In the midst of this, Swift has also produced three albums: two re-records of her albums Speak Now and 1989, along with producing a completely new album titled The Tortured Poets Department, which consists of 31 songs.
There is no doubt that Swift has had an impactful and memorable one year and nine months. The Eras Tour covers all of Swift’s eras (albums) which have made her whole career so special.
The concert opened with her album Lover and ended with her album Midnights. Swift never failed to keep her audience entertained and surprised during her Surprise Song Set, which consisted of any songs not on her set list to be performed. In later shows, Swift has mashed up her songs, brought other artists on stage with her including Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams, Ed Sherrean, Marren Morris, and so many others. This set is clearly a favorite by all of the attendees.
There is no doubt that her last few shows in Canada have become an emotional topic for all her fans, crew, and Taylor herself. Taking a look at her last six shows, Taylor has reflected on her journey on this tour by thanking all of her fellow performers, fans, and the crew that worked so hard to make the show as special as it was (Today). Normally during her last song “Karma,” Taylor was lowered down into the stage, but during her last show, Taylor walked out with her fellow performers for the final time (Today). To many fans this truly meant that the tour was ending and was so hard for people to grasp and take in. Swift said goodbye to this tour by reflecting on what it meant for her and how much appreciation and love she has for her fans. Swift shares, “I want to thank every single one of you for being a part of the most thrilling chapter of my life so far” (Today). Clearly, Taylor also feels the same way about The Eras Tour, just as much as her die-hard fans do.
Most importantly, the fans were dying to know what suprise songs Swift was going to play tonight, as well as if there would be any announcements about releasing another album, re-record, or documentary, as there have been many moments of hinting at something big to come. Sadly, there was no announcement, but the fans did get something special during the last show, which were the surprise songs she chose to play. First, Swift played a mashup of “Long Live,” “New Years Day,” and “The Manuscript” on the piano which really pulled on the heart strings of so many fans because of the lyrics of these songs. “Long Live” especially had the most impact on the fans because of the applicable lyrics of the song, which were “It was the end of a decade” but she switched the lyric to “It was the end of an era” making it relatable to the moment that Swift and all of her fans were in (Today). Next, Swift played two other songs on the guitar, which were “A Place in this World” from her first album Taylor Swift and “New Romantics” from her fifth studio album 1989 which many fans loved because it felt like a full circle moment because it brought her fans back to her first studio album which started it all for her. A fun moment during the last show was through the fans showing how much they love and appreciate Taylor by singing her “Happy Birthday” due to her birthday coming on December 13th. There is no doubt that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will go down in history as one of the most historic tours ever, and fans are anticipating that this will not be the last time Swift will be on the big stage, as Swift’s new Eras Tour Book ends with the quote “See you next Era.” Fans are eagerly awaiting to see what Swift has up her sleeve next! But for now, this Era for Taylor and her fans’ has come to a close, as Swift exited The Eras Tour stage for the very last time (Marie Claire).
