The James Caldwell girls’ volleyball team is starting off the season strong with a record of 6 wins and 3 losses. After finishing the past season with a record of 24 wins and 4 losses the girls had big shoes to fill. The girls have had to step up this year, and they have done so thus far, despite the loss of some very talented seniors who have graduated including Jenna Dromgoole, Gianna Genello and Jessica Matheiss.
Seniors Kelly Pierce and Abby Sloan have played a major role so far. Abby Sloan leads the team with 11 aces and Kelly Pierce leads with 76 service points. When asked how the season is coming along Kelly Pierce responded, “I think our season is going well so far and we are looking forward to a very competitive rest of the season. We have a pretty young team so it’s going to be more of a building year for us altogether.” The captains/seniors that are leading the team are Kelly Pierce, Abby Sloan, Christina Stiefbold, and Gillian DiMasi. The younger players have also contributed very well to the team with Rachel Galante leading the team with 58 kills. With two tough upcoming home matches against Livingston and West Essex, I wish the best of luck to the girls and encourage everyone to attend the games and support them.
