Athlete Profile: Danny McCarthy

I understand it is just the first few days of preseason, but so far how is this years’ swim team shaping up:

Danny: The team’s looking a little small, but the kids we have are good. In addition to myself, we have two other members returning from a record setting relay (Andrew Canavan and Dave Burton).

What successes from last year is the team looking to build off of?

Danny: We are trying to re-break the 200 free relay record and get a top 5 finish in the county meet as a team.

Are there any goals that you have set for yourself?

Danny: I want to try to get the school 50 freestyle record.

Any meets we should look forward to or any special Caldwell swim team rivals?

Danny: West Essex should be a great meet. They are always extremely competitive and fun to swim against.

Any other seniors or other swimmers we should keep our eye on?

Danny: Dave Burton and Andrew Canavan are two returning seniors that are extremely talented. Look to see them make a big impact on the team this year.

Any plans for swimming or other sports after high school?

Danny: I’m committed to play lacrosse at Montclair State University.

The Swimming Chiefs hope to capitalize off of the success of last years’ season into the new 2013-2014 season. We wish them the best of luck on behalf of the Caldron’s Sports section.
