Athlete Profile: Dave Burton

Chiefs’ boys’ swim team had an impressive roster this year with help from not only the seniors but the juniors as well. One junior in particular, Dave Burton, had an astonishing season with numerous record breaking performances. I sat down with Burton to discuss the year in review, and of course, the future.

Q: Starting with the basics, how long have you been swimming?

A: I’ve been swimming competitively for nine years and I started swimming when I was seven for the Caldwell Dolphins summer recreation team.

Q: Nice, did the Chiefs live up to expectations this year?

A: I think the boys surpassed expectations for this season because although it didn’t show in our overall record, we went out and got faster nearly every meet and we had fun throughout the season.

Q: How is next season looking?

A: I’m really excited for next season because we have a lot of returning swimmers (i.e. Andrew Canavan, Danny McCarthy) who are only going to get better and help out the team.

Q: Sounds good, do you have any plans for college yet?

A: I hope to continue swimming in college but I don’t know where that will be yet.

The Swimming Chiefs will take the pool next year during their “Midnight Madness” meet, as they plan for big things. With a bunch of returning varsity swimmers, the boy’s team will look forward to a highly anticipated season, as the only way they can go is up.
