February 2021: What’s Coming to & Leaving Netflix?

Recently, Netflix has come under fire for removing fan favorites from the streaming service. Shows like The Office and Gossip Girl were classic bingeable shows, but with rival streaming services like Peacock (you can watch The Office here!) and HBO Max (you can watch Gossip Girl here!), Netflix is not allowed to stream certain movies and shows anymore. Also, as movies and shows grow old and are not watched frequently, Netflix removes titles to make room for newer ones. As per routine, titles are being removed from and added to Netflix this month. I tried compiling some of the more popular titles.

A popular show that came to Netflix this month, on February 8, is iCarly (seasons 1 & 2). I never watched this show growing up, so like Victorious, I am glad to be able to catch a Nickelodeon show from when I was younger! Good Girls season 3 also came to Netflix on the 15th, and this comedy drama certainly kept fans wanting more! Netflix comedy series Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready (season 2) came to Netflix on the second, so Netflix subscribers will surely have their pick of comedies to watch this month. If you are looking for a new show to watch, Tribes of Europa came to Netflix on the 19th; this post apocalyptic German show, set in 2070, has potential to be a new sci-fi rager.

A highly anticipated movie (and the last in the trilogy) To All the Boys: Always and Forever hit users’ screens on February 12th. This is a Netflix Original movie, and like its predecessors, is an adaptation of Jenny Han’s book (Always and Forever, Lara Jean). Other movies coming to Netflix this month include: Inception (February 1), The Conjuring (February 21), and The Conjuring 2 (February 21).

To make room for these new titles and keep up with new shows and movies, Netflix is getting rid of beloved titles. Bates Motel (seasons 1-5) will be gone on the 19th. The classic tearjerker,  A Walk To Remember, will be gone on the last day of this month (first The Notebook and now this, ugh!), as will the iconic teen comedy drama film Easy A, starring Emma Stone (you can still listen to “Pocketful of Sunshine” on any music streaming service though :D).

And there you have it! More titles will be coming to Netflix and leaving as the year progresses, but considering many of us are at home for the most part, it shouldn’t be too hard to keep up with your favorites, watching them one last time before they are taken off or moved to another streaming service. In the meantime, you can also check out some of Netflix’s newer titles. I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, but Malcom & Marie, starring Zendaya and John David Washington and directed by Sam Levinson, has earned the title of being one of the first full movies to be envisioned and filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic!
