Citizens all across the country flocked the streets on Saturday, November 7th, jubilantly celebrating the long-awaited presidential election win of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States.

America had chosen Biden over 45th President, Donald Trump, by a close victory of 306 Electoral votes, to 232. From November 3rd to November 7th, U.S. citizens were on the edge of their seats, longing to hear the announcement of what the future would hold for our country.

As word of the official verdict was announced, supporters were immediately ready to celebrate. From local areas like Caldwell to larger cities like New York, Biden supporters safely flooded the streets to celebrate while still following the COVID-19 restrictions. Celebrations varied including, dancing, cheering, singing, chanting, honking, and more.

Locally, in Montclair, New Jersey, cars traveled through the streets, honking their horns, while kids stuck their heads out the window cheering. Biden and American flags were proudly waved high, while people triumphed over the win.

JCHS junior Annie Gustavsen stated, “It felt like the world was so much happier that night. Everywhere I looked people were smiling and dancing, there were even a few kids who had brought instruments to play for the crowd. Everyone had something to rejoice over, and I am so happy I was able to join in with their celebration and witness a great part of history not far from my own home”

In Maplewood, New Jersey, people were line dancing in the street alongside a DJ while crowds of all ages joyfully waved their flags in celebration. For the whole day and many days to come, Biden supporters were carefree and relieved in the outcoming of the election.

In cities like New York and San Francisco, even larger gatherings erupted, in celebration of Biden crossing the 270 threshold with the announcement of Pennsylvania’s results.

According to a New Yorker who witnessed the celebrations, “I don’t have any great pictures. And no big specific story other than being in a store with doors open and a cafe outside and cheers immediately erupting in and outside when the news hit the wires. And almost bursting into tears knowing exactly what was happening at that moment.”

Neighborhood kids were standing around outside banging spoons on pots and pans to partake in the triumph parades.

“This is the time to heal in America,” Biden had said in his victory speech on Saturday, November 7th. While our country evidently stands divided, I think this win will have a major and beneficial effect on future years coming.
