Chiefs look forward to another highly anticipated year

Ever since 7:30AM on August 19th, it has been strictly business for the Caldwell Chief football team. With some key losses from last year’s team, the Chief’s knew that this year the seniors have to step up. Led by captains Joe Salter (Quarterback), Joe Galioto (Tackle), Jimmy Stille (Linebacker/Running back) and Jack Docteroff (Tight End/Linebacker), this year’s squad is back with a vengeance. Losing in the semi-finals last year to a powerful Mountain Lakes team, the Chiefs wanted to make sure that the 2013 squad gets Coach Trimmer a ring. From late December to August, the team put in work in the weight room and on the track, making sure that this year’s group was the strongest and fastest yet. All this hard work isn’t going to waste, either. With an altered practice plan, this year’s team’s mental strength might be at an all-time high as well. Coaches implemented a new system where the team gets together for thirty minutes before practice to go over defensive schemes and plays. With the extra practice itinerary thrown into the mix, the Chiefs are working hard for that championship. Captain Jimmy Stille said of the team,“Basically [our goal is] to improve every day. We have to win that day, take it game by game and ultimately win a state championship which I think is definitely possible for us.”

Seniors Matt Aiello (DL), Vinny Biasi (OL), Steve Brown (WR/DB), Sean Clarkin (TE/DE), Jack Docteroff (TE/DE), Joe Salter (QB), Jack Kinney (WR/DB/QB/K/P), Anthony Sanchez(OL/DL), Dave Norton (TE), Nick Desena(OL), Max Pletnev (OL/DL), Joey Valentino(OL/DL), Dylan Soriente (WR/DB), JimmyStille (LB/RB), Joe Galioto (OL/DL), Mike Gurriere (RB/DB), Ray Iodice (RB/DB) Kyle DiBrita (DL) and Phil Ventola (Equipment Manager) lead the crew this year to one of the most highly anticipated seasons yet. With big early season wins against Cedar Grove (31-28) and Belleville (60-0), it is looking promising for the Chiefs. Only time will tell if Coach Trimmer’s team will take it all the way this year.
