Lady Chiefs confident despite elevated competition

The past is not dead, but is an ever-livened force that pushes down on, and influences, the present. The past is important to the future. With a history of not only success, but domination, beating down upon them, the Lady Chiefs of the Caldwell softball team have just as high expectations as years past, according to senior Carleigh Trivino.

After a conference championship last year, the Chiefs moved up into the upper division of the SEC. Undaunted, Trivino asserts that the team, “Will be able to compete at the same level [as they] did last year,” despite the heightened competition.
Having nine returning starters, along with a slew of healthy reserves, senior Gina Veneziano characterizes the line-up as solid, filled with power hitters from the one through nine holes. Veneziano’s characterization seems to be holding true as, according to Rachel Curtiss, the team has put together, “Some really great scrimmages,” thus far.
As the season quickly approaches, and the Sectional Championship in mind, the girls hope to keep the momentum they have gained moving smoothly and strongly as they enter the regular season. Hopefully, this year will see more stellar play from seniors including Trivino, Veneziano, and Curtiss. Additionally, the team hopes to see growth and leadership from some of the younger players including Cayla Lombardi and Gianna Genello; thus, building a strong foundation for the future.
With so many experienced varsity players returning, the Chiefs will definitely be a tough team to beat in lieu of the divisional change. The girls are hopeful that this year will be yet another year that helps resurrect the legacy of recent past to victorious light once again.
