The James Caldwell High School cross country team ran at their Conference finals on Wednesday, October 5. This was the team’s 5th and final race of the year at Branchbrook Park in Newark. Both the boys and girls teams are lead by Head Coach Bob Dubas and assistant coaches Anita Dubas and Angela Giampino-Vasi. The boy’s team has had several outstanding runs this year and has won several more contests than last year. The girls team was moved down a division this year and faced much stiffer competition but still had some outstanding runs.
Senior Claudia Canale said,”We’ve worked really hard this year and I think all of the personal bests at the last meet show that.” Canale along with her fellow seniors, Dana Elphick and Caroline Coughlin, had personal bests on Wednesday. Canale went onto say, “I think I’m speaking for the all the senior runners that we’re sad that we had our last meet at Branchbrook and hope to finish out the season strong at the Livingston invitational on October 14th and at the county finals at Brookdale Park on October 28th.” Dana Elphick said “I think the performance that we had on Wednesday was great considering we were missing our two senior captains Hannah Fierro and Sam Gargiulo as they battle through injury. The fact that other girls were able to step into their spots and have great performances shows the camaraderie and strength of this team.”
