The Caldwell Chiefs Girls Basketball team is off to a strong start, as we kick off the 2016 season. They are at six wins and seven losses so far as we approach the halfway point in the season. The girls have a pretty good conference record of three wins and two losses. Despite the discouraging season opener against Newark Academy, where they suffered a loss 61-37, they were able to turn things around, winning five of their next six games.
The Chiefs have a relatively young team, with just three seniors this year. Sophomore Alyssa DeBlasis is having an incredible year. She currently has 248 points for the year, 66 rebounds, 13 assists, 52 steals, and 22 blocks, incredible stats for such a young player. Senior Nicolette Tufano is also getting off to a good start with 69 points, 21 rebounds, 28 assists, and 19 steals. The Chiefs will be very successful if these players continue to perform the way they have been.
The future’s looking bright for the girls’ basketball program. Many of the top performers have many more games to play and they can only get better. The seniors will be crucial in creating a successful season as they will be able to use their experience to help some of the younger players, who are exceeding their expectations. The younger players will gain experience that will only make them better athletes in the future.
