Boys Soccer Comes to a Close

By Gary DeOliveira

The boys soccer season came to a close on Tuesday November 3, 2015 at Parsippany. The Parsippany squad ousted the Chiefs by a score of 4-1. The Chiefs battled through a difficult schedule to end the year with a 7-11-1 record. The Super Essex Conference is known as one of the toughest in New Jersey, and the Chiefs fought through it and earned some respect.

The best two games for the Chiefs came early on this year. On Opening day the squad tied Montclair 0-0. The game will be remembered for the torrential downpour throughout its entirety. Montclair is a top 20 team in the state, and had every advantage as they were used to the turf field. Yet, Caldwell held its own and maintained a very respectable draw. The next best match had to have been the crucial victory over Newark East Side. The East Side squad is a perennial top 20 team and is always a thorn in the Chief’s’ side. The 1-0 win by Caldwell was crucial in their early season push, and was spearheaded by Alex Nicol’s second half goal along with keeper Gary DeOliveira’s  six saves.

Caldwell has a very bright future moving forward. A young lineup this past year allows for a higher amount of growth for the young players. Players such as Alex Nicol, Nick Lim, Connor Reddan, and TJ Hreniuk all learned valuable lessons from earning such playing time. Coaches Alan Branigan and John Inguatiato expect the team to only succeed moving forward and the fans should expect success as well.
