Johnny Depp v Amber Heard

Johnny Depp v Amber Heard

“TheIndependent.com”

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trials have gained a lot of attention from the public. But what is this really all about? According to The Independent, Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for defamation. This all revolves around an op-ed that Amber Heard wrote for The Washington Post. Heard never named Depp but accused him of domestic abuse. Depp and his legal team say that this is false.

There have been many accusations and testimonies given, and cross examinations. But, the public have several opinions of their own. This has been a prevalent case in the media and a lot of people have come up with their own opinions. I interviewed some classmates about their own opinions revolving around this case:

Jude Bazerman, senior at JCHS said, “I think that Johnny Depp should be clear of all legal trouble and Amber Heard should spend a long time in prison for not only what she did to Johnny, but also tainting his name and reputation.” A big reason why Depp did go through with this case is because he was losing movie opportunities after Heard released the op-ed. Heard also allegedly abused Johnny.

Alexis Narine said, “I think that Amber Heard is lying.” A video clip went viral on Tik Tok and many Tik Tok users have been making videos to a sound of Amber Heard claiming that Johnny hit her. People have been making fun of her because the public believes that she is lying.

The majority of the public believe that Johnny Depp is innocent and overall, I think that he is winning in the public eye and gaining a lot of respect back from people. Whether or not he wins the defamation case, the public have been defending him. To win the actual defamation case, Depp has to prove that Heard was acting with malice and lying. If Heard wants to win in her countersuit against Depp, she also has to prove the same exact thing. They are held to high standards since this is a very publicized case.
