The new year started off with the movement against sexual harassment and assault. This movement began with a foundation of famous stars in Hollywood. In honor of this new social uprising, during the 2018 SAG Awards and Golden Globes, stars wore various articles of black clothing to call attention to the movement.
This movement has flourished especially over social media, as hashtags such as #AskHerMore and #MeToo have collectively created almost 800,000 posts on Instagram alone. Because of their publicity titles, actors, actresses, singers, and other famous associates have become the delegates in support of the movement’s awareness. Women especially have become open about their own experiences regarding harassment in the workplace. This movement is not, however, solely for working women, but instead targets a goal for the overall balance between men and women. Attention was called to the unspoken lack of diversity in men and women in Hollywood.
The Time’s Up website states bluntly: “The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. It’s time to do something about it.” Along with multiple statistics regarding the inequalities of people of color, women, etc., the website offers featured products such as buttons, shirts, logo stickers, bags, and notebooks to further expand the message.
The Time’s Up movement serves as part of the modern feminist movement, a continuing battle for equality among people.
