Animal Testing

In the past few years, more and more people are focusing on where their products come and how they were created or tested. I believe this is mainly because of the somewhat recent trend of veganism that has become wildly popular in last decade or so. Vegans do not consume any products or byproducts of animals and are advocates of animals rights. With the rise of veganism, people have begun inquiring about origin of products and whether animals were harmed in the making of these products.

It is common knowledge that animals are commonly used for scientific studies and experiments, such as dissections. However, animals are also used as live research subjects where they are starved and abused. While the conditions these animals endure are unacceptable, in some cases, the studies that use animals are successful in discovering a medication, vaccine, or cure for a disease. A problem arises when cosmetic companies, such as Avon, Estee Lauder, and Maybelline, use animals to test their products. These products have been proven to complicate the health of these animals and sometimes even cause death.

In my opinion, these acts of abuse are utterly despicable. It is atrocious to take a living thing that cannot speak up for itself and put it through so much pain, and I agree we should not support companies who encourage animal testing. I also believe that if something or someone has no way of granting consent, then it should not be subjected to testing and experimentation. Therefore, since these companies have tested animals without their consent, they should be punished for their crimes.
