This year Ryan Boggio has been a shining star on what some would consider a struggling Caldwell Baseball team. Boggio has shown great improvement from last year, as he has more than doubled his batting average. This year he has 12 hits in just 29 at bats, with 3 runs batted in, a home run, and two stolen bases. This week I sat down with Boggio to ask him a few questions about the season thus far.
Q: How has this season been?
A: The season has had its ups and downs. We are currently 3-9 after moving up to the Super Essex Conference (S.E.C) American conference this season. We have had to adjust to the more challenging competition.
Q: How are you guys making up for injuries and players who have graduated?
A: We knew going into the season that it would be tough as we lost eight starters from previous seasons and an injury to our best player Hunter Smith. However, when those players went down, we had confidence in others to step up and fill their spots.
Q: What are the goals for the team moving forward?
A: The goal is to just keep working hard and getting better. Each game we are improving, but we haven’t been able to get over the hump. Hopefully as we continue to get better each and every day, the wins will start to come.
Q: What will you have to do to accomplish those goals?
A: As I said we just need to continue to work each and every day. We need to be playing our best baseball around playoff time.
It was great getting to sit down with one of Caldwell’s finest talents on the diamond. We at the Caldron wish the baseball team luck on the rest of their season.
